HHWC is a joint project of the Blayney Chronicle, Blayney Shire Council and Bernardi’s MarketPlace, and the cooking demos are a way of helping families eat healthy food using the store’s weekly specials.
During last week’s demo home cooks Mark Logan and Sophie Reynolds used mince and wraps to create two very different dinners.
Mr Logan cooked Greek style wraps using a combination of minced lamb and beef to which he added his own flavourings.
“I added fresh mint, parsley and dried oregano as well as some garlic and finely chopped red onion,” he said. “These are really flexible as you can also add Fetta cheese, some cinnamon and even cook them in a tomato sauce.”
Mrs Reynolds made beef quesadillas and used whole spices instead of pre-made taco seasoning mixes.
“If you read the ingredients on the back of the pack you can then buy all of those spices and use them again and again rather than paying more for the packs,” she said.
This Thursday Mr Logan will be joined by Maxine Meek and they’ll have their goodies ready for tasting from 4pm through to 6, or earlier if the tucker runs out.
This week there will be a Moroccan twist on apricot chicken and a delicious kumera, walnut and haloumi salad.
