Blayney bowled first and it started as a tough day at the office, O.R.C’s opening batsman off to a comfortable beginning.
Morgan Fuller was handed the new ball for the first time there and was at first reluctant to let it get it all scratched up and dirtym until finding a steady pattern and containing O.R.C. to 25 runs off four overs.
Madison Marmion (0-35 off six) was endeavouring to curb the enthusiasm of a senior batsman having a go at her bowling, bowling genuinely well, yet anything over-pitched was punished.
The batsman now softened up, reliable combination Bailey Perkins (1-35 off five) and Taylor Hobby (2-25 off five) were again quick to deliver, halting O.R.C from getting away to a big score.
Blair Holgate helped with 3-8 off four, Harry Taylor (0-31 off four) has had better bowling days and Jack Garrity chimed in (1-3 off two) with “Angry” Alex Kinghorne took 1 wicket from his solitary delivery, finishing off the O.R.C innings all out for 171.
Blayney didn’t get off to a great start despite the reasonable total.
After scoring an unbeaten 50 last week, Jardon Hobby was gone early, followed a couple of overs later by Wells, who was joined quickly by Morgan and then Madison.
Bailey Perkins only lasted a couple of balls and very early Blayney were in a huge amount of trouble.
A handy partnership between Jack Garrity (19) and “Big Bash” Holgate ensured as the latter improved his growing runs tally, thumping his way to an impressive 72 runs off 45 balls.
Our Blayney’s batsman were doing their best to stay in, whilst, Holgate, did his best not to hit and damage cars, houses, shops or property with precise monster shots.
Webb-Pratt impressed, surviving eighteen balls, with Kinghorne unluckily lasting just three deliveries.
Well done, Harry Taylor (2 not out) who survived twenty two balls, in a bid to help Blair!
When the last man standing Blair, was finally bowled, O.R.C were relieved and happy they didn’t have to search in the bushes to find the ball any more after fifteen boundaries to Blair.
“Our bowling and fielding were great, but we can all bat so much better than what we did out there today,” captain Nathan Wells said.
“Well done Blair Holgate, 72 runs and 3 wickets for 8, you can’t do much better than that.”
Blair Holgate was awarded the Blayney game ball for his performance.
Meanwhile, a pink stumps Twenty20 charity match will be held on December 15 from 2.30pm, with a Damon Taylor XI taking on a Nathan Wells XI.
The match is aiming to raise $500 for the McGrath Foundation and $500 for Blayney Cricket.
Blair Holgate will visit businesses, with activities planned for the day. Any support is appreciated.
Blayney’s next game is against the Bushrangers at Dakers Oval from 1.30pm on Saturday, November 10.
