Local events and ceremonies will be held in Lyndurst and Blayney at 11am on Sunday for a minute’s silence.
These events will be followed by a 100-year Armistice Day luncheon at the Blayney Shire Community Centre from 12 noon for all members of the RSL Sub Branches in Lyndhurst and Blayney.
The luncheon is being hosted by Blayney Shire Council having approved a financial contribution of up to $3,000 from the Financial Assistance Program for this combined Centenary of Armistice commemorative event.
Traditionally these post-ceremony gatherings have been separate functions, due to timing of each organisation’s formal public marches and commemorations coinciding with each other.
In a change to recent years, only on luncheon will follow the minute’s silence across the shire this year, with event to be held in Blayney to mark the 100 year anniversary.
Councillors will join the local community and RSL Sub-Branches in Blayney and Lyndhurst for ceremonies to remember the many local sons and daughters who were lost during the time of conflict before heading to the community centre for the lunch.
A time capsule assembled by schools and local groups will be buried in Carrington Park on Sunday, to be dug up on the 200th anniversary.
There will also be speeches, and a video remembering the soldiers from the Blayney region who lost their lives during the war will be played.
