Up against sides from much bigger towns they began the year with a ‘lets just see what happens’ attitude, and it seems that what’s happened is that the seconds are a better than good chance of winning the final on Saturday.
‘We probably let a few wins go in first grade, not to make the finals, so we were down a little bit there, but we were certainly competitive with nearly every game we played, but with a few blowouts,” he said.
“For our seconds to be where they are, it’s been a really successful year.”
This Saturday in Narromine the Rams will be up against the home side, but in the four games this season Blayney have only lost to Narromine the once, a low scoring 10-5 match early in the season.
Considering that Blayney played Narromine two weeks ago in the preliminary final, there’s no mystery for Cole about what he’s up against.
“They have the home side advantage and we’re the only team that has beaten Narromine this year, so if that isn’t motivation for them, I don’t know what is,” he said.
Cole believes that all the Rams have to do is keep control of the set pieces and they’ll be on the right track.
“If we can match them in the scrums and line outs and hold our own, I think our five-eight and two centres are going to be our major game changers for us,” he said.
“We have some very handy inside backs there and if they can get a roll on, and I think they will, they’ll be very hard to stop.”
For Cole it will all be about keeping the ball in the Gorilla’s 22, and unleashing his forwards when needed.
“I think the forwards will be very hard to stop if we can get into their 22,” he said.
Cole said that his side’s defence was the best he’d seen it all year, and communication was at the key of it all.
“They communicated well and they did really well in cover defence during that first preliminary final,” he said.
