This Sunday the Blayney Bears will be playing their last home game for the season, a season that saw the first grade side pull out the nitro last Sunday and rocket past the Lithgow Workies in a brilliant 38-30 win.

The Bears shot out of the gate early on in the match with Michael Toohey crossing the chalk early, followed by two by Lhiam Burrell and one from the Workies to bring the score to 14-4 for Blayney, but a late flurry of tries from Lithgow saw the all too familiar scoreline deficit running the Bears way at 14-24 at half-time.
With their first win for the season against Lithgow all but a distant memory, coach Tim Mortimer said that it was a real relief to notch up another win.
“We knew the opportunity was there and it was for all of those that turn up at training, turn up at the canteen that I just asked the boys to find that little bit extra we needed to get over the line,” he said.
Half-back Mitch Evers is currently the number five top point scorer in group 10 and Mortimer said that the Bear’s points tally was well up there for the year.
“Even against some of the stronger teams we’ve been able to put on a lot of points,” Mortimer said.
The second half of Sunday’s match was all Bears with Ricky Scott nailing two tries, Evers planting the ball neatly between the posts twice and scoring his own goal, as well as Mick Godfrey who levelled the scores 30-30 at the 38 minute mark.
