Organiser of the inaugural Central West Choral Festival, Tracey Callinane, said that the event was a huge success and now it was time to develop it more for next year.
“There is overwhelming support for another festival next year as it was the first opportunity for these choral singers to listen to other groups in such a delightful setting,” she said.
Three choirs from Bathurst took part in the festival as did five from Orange.
One member of the Sounds Live Choir from Bathurst was Hobby’s Yard’s resident Don Young who returned to singing, after a 30 year absence, in 2011.
“I just love singing,” he said. “I began singing when I was in the church choir and I’ve been singing, on and off, ever since.”
Mr Young said that the range of songs on offer during the day showed the versatility and power of the human voice.
“Any thing that you can put a human voice to, I enjoy,” he said. “I do have a bias towards the classics, but really, I simply enjoy singing everything.”
With Blayney being the launching pad for the festival it’s still unsure if it will be the venue for next year’s festival.
Mrs Callinen said that all Blayney needs to do now is to form a choir of their own.
“We just need a few movers and shakers in the Blayney community to get together and form a choir,” she said.
