Blayney Inner Wheel ladies held their May meeting on May 22, where we were given an inspiring and educational talk by Orange resident Wendy Waterson sharing her experiences of walking the Kokoda Track in 2016 at the young age of 66.

Wendy was very firm in her insistence that it is definitely the Kokoda Track, NOT Trail, as the Americans called it!
Apparently the American soldiers had no understanding of the Australian term “track”, when they were fighting in the Papua Campaign during WWII.
Wendy trained by walking up Mt Canobolas every Sunday for 18 months, and also many sessions in the gym.
But nothing prepared her for the heat, humidity and often near perpendicular climbs!
She was inspired to make the trek because her father served in PNG during WWII, and one of Wendy’s photos showed the Mona War Cemetery where 4,523 Aussie soldiers are buried, a very moving sight and one which holds special significance for many Australians.
Four of our Blayney Members will be travelling to WA for the Inner Wheel Australia Changeover, to be held in Mandurah on Sunday, June 17.
Member Janet Power is particularly excited to be returning to her former home-town of some 35 years ago. It will have changed hugely in the intervening years!
Our next Meeting will be our 56th Annual Changeover, on Saturday, June 23, at which current President Patti Crofts will hand over the chain of office to Incoming President Lyn May.
All members are looking forward to a day of friendship and celebration.
