Just why was the mouse up the clock in the first place?
On Wednesday Blayney Pre-school students were given the answer as they took part in the 18th National Simultaneous Storyline. (NSS)
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
David Kingham was on hand to read this year’s book titled ‘Hickory, Dickory, Dash’ written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
Spoiler alert.
Cats really do enjoy chasing and eating mice.
- David Kingham
The mouse was up the clock because that’s where her children were hiding from the cat that was hunting them around the house.
Mr Kingham’s comprehension skills were put to the test by the students who relentlessly quizzed him on why the cat was chasing the mice in the first place.
Questions ranged from why was the mouse in the bath, to why did the mouse jab the cat with a pin.
The answer of course was one of survival and natural instincts.
“Cats really do enjoy chasing and eating mice,” Mr Kingham said.
