Madaline Katana Murphy completed her HSC last year, and as a student taking part in the innovative Aurora program at the school, receiving the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation Scholarship will make a huge difference to her experience of university life.
The scholarship is designed to support students who have enthusiasm for and ambition in a field they might otherwise be prevented from entering.
“With this scholarship I can now afford all my study needs like text books and I can now concentrate more on my studies,” she said.
Ms Murphy is studying to become a primary teacher and it’s her love of science that helped her snare the scholarship.
“I studied biology, chemistry and physics for the HSC and I don’t think that there is enough focus on the sciences in primary school, so I want to help change that.”
Ms Murphy was awarded the scholarship at the Proudly Public! Celebrating Excellence in Public Schools awards night at Sydney Town Hall on Monday, May 21.
