Blayney is just one of hundreds of fire stations across NSW throwing open the doors and giving communities a chance to check out the fire trucks and stations, get home fire safety tips and to meet their local firefighters.
With temperatures plummeting and heaters being turned on, Blayney Fire Brigade is urging all residents to take all precautions to help prevent fires in the home.
Captain Anthony Kearney said that during the cooler months both chimney fires and electrical fires increase due to people not cleaning out their flues, or overloading powerpoints.
“We get about eight calls out every month, and we certainly don’t care how big or small those fires are,” he said.
“It’s better to be safe than sorry.”
Fire and Rescue NSW are also asking residents to clean out the lint trap in their clothes driers and keep an eye on what’s cooking in the kitchen.
The open day at Blayney Fire Brigade is this Saturday May 19 from 10am to 12pm.
