With the organisers’ ongoing focus on hosting stalls of quality and diversity, over 250 stalls were spread around Redmond Oval and in the grounds of Millthorpe Public.
Stall holders had travelled from around the region and across the state.
The organisers’ attention to balancing the layout of the stalls with wider, lushly green walkways provided a spacious feel.
Market organiser, Rachel Booth, said it was shaping up to be the largest market for some time with an estimated 10,000 people attending and with an army of students, staff and local volunteers ensuring smooth running.
Organised by Millthorpe Public School’s P and C, the Markets are an important bi-annual fund raiser for the school, via the gold coin entry donation and profits from the volunteer-staffed barbecue kiosk and Hot Dog stall.
Three music sites, at the historic rotunda, in the centre of the oval, and in the school grounds, were utilised, with a roster of performers, teenagers and upwards, entertaining the crowds.
Hay bales around the rotunda and next to the canteen provided seating for the crowds close to coffee, snack and produce stalls.
This was the first year for the Millthorpe Village Committee and the Youth Club to have stalls at the Market.
These stalls, prominently located inside the Memorial Gates, promoted the village’s many activities and attractions.
The Youth Club was also promoting free Totem Skateboarding coaching sessions, supported by the Sally Foundation, throughout the day at the village skate park.
Over the next few months the skate park will be given a face-lift with funding from the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal and the Millthorpe Village Committee.
The next meeting of the Millthorpe Village Committee will be 5.30pm Wednesday, April 18 at the CWA Hall, Pym Street. All welcome.
