Jack of all trades: Cleo off and running for athletics multi-event

Blayney High School’s Cleo Dickie is off to Brisbane after being selected as one of three girls in the state as part of the under-15 NSW team for the 2018 Coles Australian Little Athletics Championships in Queensland.

She’s taking part in the multi-event, which is where the three competitors all do javelin, shot put, hurdles, long jump, high jump and 200m and 800m races, and a 4x100m relay, with all of their results combined.

Dickie started athletics in under 11s, and thinks her strengths in the multi-event will be the 200 and the long jump, and she said she loves competing and getting to know new people, such as her teammates for the upcoming championships.

“They’re really nice, I’d heard of them but never actually met them until Wagga,” she said.

“We had a camp a few weeks ago in Narrabeen, and they selected three boys and three girls from the state multi in the under 15s.”

“I’m excited about it”
