For 27 years the annual Food Week event has been a driving force behind the growth of Orange as a foodie destination.
Now after special food events in Canowindra and Molong, Blayney will soon have its own special Food Week signature event.
To be held on Monday April 9, the evening will commence in Carrington Park with sparkling wine and canapes and then progress down to the Community Centre, where food prepared by Sydney chef Alex Kearns, will be a feature of the long tables.
Organiser Edwina Mitchell said that Taste Orange had always wanted to hold something in Blayney, and that it’s hoped this won’t be a one off.
“For the past nine years we’ve had outdoor events in the main streets of Canowindra and Molong, and they can be slightly warmer than Blayney on an early April night, so we needed an indoor venue and we have ready made fabulousness right here in the community centre,” she said.
“The point about this dinner is not just for Food Week to put the dinner on, it’s to involve Blayney and the community groups of Blayney with Food Week for the next four years,” she said.
“We’ll need community groups to help us with the muscle to set out the tables, and we’ll be giving them a donation for helping us out.
“We can’t do this without on the ground knowledge and support and to create something that is ongoing, lasting and valuable to the community.”
The local supporters of the Food Week dinner are the Blayney Farmers Market committee who will be helping out on the night.
Edwina believes that the 100 mile dinners that started in Canowindra nine years ago have helped that town expand its tourism and business profile.
“There were new shops opening and Canowindra has benefited from what we did,” she said.
“Because we’ve had 300 people come to events there, and also hopefully Blayney, that has real benefits to here."
“People will come and stay in Blayney and drive back on Tuesday or stay in Millthorpe or Carcoar.”
