Coordinator of the awards, Delanie Sky, said that the theme for International Women’s Day was ‘Press for Progress’ and that the day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, environmental and political achievements of women in the community.
“We are looking to formally recognise and celebrate a local woman ages 18 or more, and a local young woman aged between 13 and 18, who has positively contributed to Blayney shire in any one or more of those categories,” she said.
“To enter all they need to do is write, in 500 words or less, telling us how you or the woman/teenager you are nominating meets one or more of the above categories.”
Ms Sky added that children could also participate in the awards.
“We are also calling for children's artworks or short creative writing pieces that formally recognise and celebrate the important and significant role women play in our shire,” she said.
“Alternately they can design a poster to promote the 2018 International Women’s Day theme of Press for Progress.”
Nominations close at midday on 23 February 2018. Winner to be announced 2 March.
Award will be presented on Friday 9 March.
