Councillor Allan Ewin said that the sounds of tennis would again echo through the village, once the cracked, weed-infested surface is completely replaced.
“No one has really played tennis in Carcoar for ages because of the sad and sorry state of the court,” he said.
“The grant will allow us to upgrade the court surface from bitumen to concrete, including a new acrylic surface, markings and perimeter fence.
“There will also be a practice hit up wall built.”
A successful application by Blayney Shire Council has resulted in nearly $16,000 being made available for the upgrade which will see the old surface ripped up and replaced.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said that tennis is one of those sports which has the potential to create a meeting place for the community.
“This funding will enable council to give the facility a new lease of life,” he said.
