Currently only single lane and with a load limit of 10 tonnes, those restrictions mean that heavy vehicles now must take, on average, a 28 kilometre detour.
With $750,000 funding now in place from the NSW Government under the Fixing Country Roads initiative, and an additional $745,000 from the federal government, those limitations will soon be a thing of the past.
Member for Bathurst, Paul Toole, said that it was impossible to retrofit the current bridge as it had reached the end of its design life and needed to be replaced.
“Widening and realigning the bridge will improve road safety, result in more efficient movements of dairy, livestock and ANL products,” he said.
“It is estimated that the bridge upgrade will result in more than 11,000 tonnes of freight being transported on this route.”
