RAMBLE FUNDS TO BEAUTIFY MILLTHORPE
The Garden Ramble committee’s aim is to raise funds to beautify and enhance the village with one of this year's projects adding more plants and flowers outside the shops along Pym and Victoria Streets.
A working bee was held recently to put in place and plant up to 14 half wine barrels using hardy attractive perennials using the potting mix generously donated by Australian Native Landscapes (ANL).
The newly formed Millthorpe Youth Club – MY Club - is also involved in this community project and have taken on the essential job of regular watering.
WINE AND TAPAS DELIGHT
The Slow Wine Company packed up its cellar door and opened its new doors in the former cooking school building to feature a new wine cellar door and special Friday Tapas evenings for visitors and locals to Millthorpe to enjoy a new experience.
Owner and entrepreneur, Terrey Johnson stated that there is a great need in Millthorpe for people to experience a true wine bar with good quality food.
“Our wines and produce in this region far outweigh many other regions and people are looking for new experiences especially at night,” said Johnson.
“It’s all about expanding on your story – in our case the Slow Wine Company - and giving people a good time so they come back to you knowing you have a good product and a great experience with tapas and wine combined.”
The Slow Wine Cellar and Wine Bar is open every day and with tapas evenings on Friday.
BIG LIFT FROM UTS STUDENTS
Paying it forward is the primary purpose for the group of students who formed The Big Lift Society at UTS in Broadway, Sydney.
Ten students from The Big Lift visited Millthorpe over the long weekend to contribute back to the village with their generous time to attend to the Mill Green, prune and tidy up the Niche Wall at the Cemetery and support the Golden Memories Museum with building a new garden with a path.
President of the Millthorpe Village Committee, John Mason stated that the students worked hard and wanted to continue for the entire weekend.
“It is such a delight to see students working towards contributing to communities in regional Australia,” said Mason.
“The students were also international students from various countries and had not experienced the true country heritage regions of Australia particularly Millthorpe.”
The Masons and committee members hosted a dinner to thank the students for their time and generosity.
CALLING STALL HOLDERS TO MILLTHORPE MARKETS
Organisers are calling on businesses and stall holders of markets to sign up for the bi-annual Millthorpe Markets held on Sunday 3 December.
Held bi-annually on the first Sunday of both April and December, the Millthorpe Markets are the major fundraising event for Millthorpe Public School, coordinated by the Millthorpe Public School P&C.
Located on Redmond Oval and within the neighbouring school grounds, in the heart of historical Millthorpe, the Millthorpe Markets were first staged in 2005 and have rapidly grown since inception due to an uncompromising focus on quality.
Each market typically attracts 300 stallholders and up to 10,000 patrons making it one of the largest community events in regional NSW.
The markets feature an eclectic mix of local producers and regional stallholders offering home and garden wares, delicious food, children’s and adult fashion, artisan products and entertainment.
As the prime fundraising initiative of the Millthorpe Public School, all funds raised at the Millthorpe Markets support the educational needs of the students.
Stall holders have until October 13 to enter their details on the Millthorpe Markets website – www.millthorpemarkets.com or contact Rachel Booth on 0404 084 268.
RISK FOR DOGS
In recent times, there has been a flurry of dogs escaping their owner’s gardens and back yards and running down Forest Reefs Road and the main road exiting Millthorpe to Orange.
Too many times cars and trucks stop to pick up the dog or worse run over it.
Is your dog safe?
