This is a fitting tribute and well-deserved honour for Peter, who at the age of 80 now actively contributes well over 50 years to the Millthorpe community and this special museum.
As President of the Millthorpe and District Historical Society, Peter Whiley’s contribution has not gone un-noticed since he became a founding member of the Millthorpe and District Historical Society which owns and operates the museum.
Whiley, whose family are pioneers of Millthorpe, became involved with the opening of the Golden Memories Museum in 1965 and took the role of President in 2012. Speaking at the Whiley family function at the Exhibition pavilion on July 29, vice president, Peter Amos, surprised Peter Whiley with a plaque of acknowledgement for his many years of service at the Golden Memories Museum.
“This is a fitting tribute and well-deserved honour for Peter, who at the age of 80 now actively contributes well over 50 years to the Millthorpe community and this special museum,’ Amos said. “His vision and research has resulted in the founding of the Australian Inventions Exhibition that opened with the new pavilion in 2015.” Peter Whiley is known as the man behind the many seats scattered around the town and the sculptures of the man, plough & horse at the Golden Memories Museum.
