Hatch labelled his side’s offensive performances as one of the best this season in a 52-26 loss against a leading competition contender.
In front of a vocal crowd on Old Boys day at University Oval the students rallied from a slow start to take the game to the ’Roos.
His team wasn’t able to get in front of the visitors but Hatch was able to walk away proud of CSU’s patient work in attack.
“It was definitely a big step up from what we’ve been doing. It’s definitely one of the best attacking performances we’ve had this year,” he said.
“They’re all buying into the game plan, and we’re starting to get a core group of players together for every round now. Getting a consistent team together certainly helps.
Dubbo skipped out to a 21-0 lead in a strong start to the opening half, which would ultimately prove the difference between the two clubs in an otherwise closely-fought game.
Hatch said the support from the sidelines played a big part in the determined showing from his men.
“The old boys are extremely passionate. Win, lose or draw their support is amazing, and that’s across all our grades,” he said.
“Our attack was brilliant. We were holding to ball for up to 15 to 20 phases. Against Rhinos, even though we won, we were usually struggling to hold the ball for even three phases. We just have to learn how to adapt our game against different teams.”
