Many members had heard of Angel Flight but few realised just what is involved in it's operation and how much the organisation depends on public help.
Everyone from doctors to pilots works in a voluntary position and the organisation receives no government funding at all.
Many airports waive landing fees as a help to this service.
It is not an alternative to the Flying Doctor or Air Ambulance - it's role is quite different.
It is a charity that co-ordinates non-emergency flights in a variety of situations.
All flights are completely free and not limited to those needing transportation for medical purposes.
Angel Flight was launched in 2003, has over 2000 pilots registered and can accept missions to and from anywhere within Australia.
All Angel Flight pilots are required to have credentials that exceed normal standards and their aircraft must meet specified CASA and insurance minimums.
As well as speaking, John also showed a short video.
His presentation was warmly received by members and it was lovely to receive a thank you note from him, expressing his gratitude to the club for allowing him to speak and saying how much he enjoyed the evening.
The guest speaker at the May dinner will be Jill Bicknell from Mission Australia.
Jill will talk about the new facility being constructed for the homeless in Orange, which will open later this month.
It is being built in the Orange Health Service/ Bloomfield hospital precinct and is the first of it's type being built in a country area.
On May 25, Orange Evening VIEW Club will celebrate its 36th birthday and has invited members of Blayney VIEW to attend.
Chocolate on Purpose will be guest speakers on the evening.
The cost is $25 p/p and the RSVP date is May 19.
Members are reminded to look over the resolutions due to be presented at National Convention in Tamworth in a September this year.
All members should have received a copy of the resolutions and they will be discussed and voted on at our June dinner meeting.
The next dinner meeting will be held at Blayney Golf Club on May 16 at 6.30pm for 7pm.
Exact numbers are required so please phone Cazzie on 6368 4747 or 0409 772 354 if you are an apology or need to put your name down to attend.
As always, any lady who is not a member but would like to attend the event for this evening, would be most welcome and we can assure you of a lovely, interesting evening.
