In early 2013, Blayney Council had to demolish the previous amenities block as it had reached the end of its useful life, and was considered unsafe.
The Sports Council identified a replacement building as its number one priority in 2013, and has worked with Council to determine a suitable location and structure.
"Council staff have worked with the Sports Council to identify a suitable solution that was within budgetary constraints. Once this was completed, design documentation was prepared and competitive bids sought by an open tender process," Mayor, Cr Scott Ferguson said.
"The successful tenderer was Bathurst-based building contractor Nick Harvey Constructions."
Cr Ferguson said he was excited that work had finally commenced, and noted that the new building will provide local football and cricket clubs with both male and female toilets and a fully accessible unisex toilet. A significant improvement upon the previous structure.
On Tuesday, Cr Ferguson and Chair of the Sports Council, Cr David Kingham were in attendance at Napier Oval as work commenced.
Cr Kingham wished to acknowledge the strategic work being undertaken by the Sports Council, to identify future priorities for sport infrastructure in the Shire.
"The group has come together over the past twelve months to pursue better outcomes for the future of the community, but we must continue to do so within budget limitations, and actively apply for grant funding as and when it comes up," he said.
"The Sports Council has been working to deliver various improvement projects across local sporting facilities and Council has recently commenced work on the replacement of fencing, and is assessing quotations for building upgrades at the Blayney Showground. Preparations are also underway to undertake building upgrades at King George Oval. Exciting times."
