The 1504 steps was smashed by James who completed the event in just over 17 minutes with Adam finishing the climb in 22 minutes.
With the help of the Blayney Newsagency, who raised $1000 from public donations and gave the pair $500 to help them along, $1816.65 at the trivia night that was supported by the Blayney Bowling Club, $951.70 from the raffle at Bernardi’s and donations on their Go Fund Raise page, the pair have raised over $5000.
Adam said that now that they he knows what to expect, he’ll give it another go next year.
‘It’s not easy by any means,” he said.
“By the 40th or 50th floor my legs were turning to jelly, but by the 80th floor it didn’t matter and you just put your head down and kept going.”
What the conditions were like inside the fire stairs were an unknown for the pair who now know what to expect.
“They were really narrow with just enough space to squeeze past and you had to yell out if you were passing someone,” he said.
“And it was hot, really hot. Once we got to the top we had cold wet towels put down our backs to cool us down.”
Adam said that he’ll be back next year, looking to improve on his time.
“I reckon I’ll be able to give it a fair shake next year and get it under the fifteen minute mark,” he said.
