Prior to that 14-12 loss the Bearettes were struck down 6-0 against the Panthers, but despite the teams two losses against the Panthers this season, coach Steve Mooney said that the team was on a high after their convincing 22-8 win against Lithgow Workies last Saturday.
“This year’s competition is so much closer than last year’s,” he said.
“There was only been a couple of points in all the matches between this top four all season.
“St Pat’s and Hawks will be a tough match because St Pat’s did well to beat Panthers last weekend.”
Mooney identified Panther’s fullback Claire Woolmington to be the one to stop.
“Woolmington is the leading try scorer in the group so she’s the danger player for us,” he said.
To battle the Panther’s, Mooney said the emphasis this weekend would be in strong defence and communication.
“Defence wins matches,” he said.
“Defence has been our strength over the last few years so hopefully it won’t let us down.
“It’s no different to playing first grade, you nominate who you’ve got and trust the person beside you that they’re going to do the job and not get sucked in.”
Kick-off is at 10.30am at Carrington Park
