Blayney Shire Council has received a grant of $183,281 to help reduce the cost of running some of its more expensive buildings across the shire.

One of 26 councils to share in the $2 million NSW Government Innovation Fund, the grants are available on a one-off basis to rural and regional councils with a population of less than 10,000 people.
Member for Bathurst, Paul Toole, said that smaller communities face different challenges to other parts of NSW and the fund means everyone gets their fair share.
“This will help council implement energy efficient technology in high demand facilities to reduce the impact on the environment and providing a cost saving to the community,” he said.
General manager of Blayney Shire, Rebecca Ryan, said that the sewerage treatment plant, CentrePoint and the Community Centre would all soon be home to solar panels.
“The electricity bill at the sewerage treatment plant itself is $40,000 every year and this grant will save us $35,000 off our total bill every year,” she said.
