A joint community project organised and supported by the Blayney Chronicle, Blayney Shire Council, Bernardi’s Marketplace and CentrePoint Sports and Leisure Centre, the challenge is designed to help reduce our waistlines, and simultaneously make us all feel a whole lot better this Spring.
With a recent Australian Health Tracker survey revealing that 75.3 per cent of the Blayney population is overweight, the HHWC kicks off from 1 September and will offer affordable ways to motivate people of all ages across Blayney and surrounding villages to eat healthy, join group fitness and look after their body and mind.
The challenge isn’t all about spending hours on a treadmill either, it’s about re-engaging with the community and getting away from the news feed on your phone, to creating a real feed using inexpensive, easy and healthy ingredients.
Bernardi’s Blayney Manager, Michael Ross said that the company was excited by the challenge and will be offering everyone who signs up to the program, exclusive discounts for healthy eating options via the Smart Shopper membership program.
“There will be weekly specials to keep those involved in the challenge on track and look out for fruit and veggie boxes as well as recipe cards in store,” he said.
“Bernardi’s is pleased to be a partner in this challenge to help the community on a path to better health and wellness for the long term sustainability of the area.”
Blayney mayor Scott Ferguson said that our health and well being should be our number one priority.
“It's time to do something positive for ourselves, our friends and our families by getting involved in the Blayney Shire wide challenge so we can all reap the rewards of feeling better, socialising and enjoying good health,” he said.
“Everyone can take positive steps, even small ones to improve our health and well being. We want Blayney Shire to be known for fitness not fatness,” Cr Ferguson said.
