But for Anthony Pond, this weekend he’ll be there to referee the under 14 and under 15 CRL country championships.
The 16 year old first began refereeing in Blayney three years ago and the transition from club referee to state, picked up in the past few weeks.
“I was in Wollongong two weeks ago and refereed in the southern division of the 14’s and 15’s and I was selected with two others to referee in the Cessnock finals,” he said.
Refereeing is not really something that most people would put their hands up for, especially not as a teenager, but Pond is honest as to why he enjoys it so much.
“I wanted to help the club out, and when I tried it I really enjoyed it.
“I really like being able to control the game and play a part in the game itself,” he said.

Although nervous, Pond said he’s excited by what this weekend brings.
