The metro men might be willing to head off to the doctors and the first sign of an ache or a sniffle, but rural men, and those of older generations are generally a stoic lot and regard being sick as a sign of weakness.
The same goes for issues of mental health, and the president of the Blayney Rotary Club Bill Burdett said that the club was now helping get the message out to the male members of the community.
“The gremlins of worry attack again and again,’ he said, “Short tempers, avoidance of relaxing social events and isolation can be a tough and sometimes tragic combination.”
Mr Burdett is encouraging men of all ages to have a Men’s Health Pitstop at the Blayney Community Centre on Wednesday July 12 between 5pm and 8.30pm.
“Come in and have a chat to our community Health nurses, take a couple of tests, have a laugh and learn more about yourself,” he said.
A cuppa and a sandwich will be available.
