Cr Somervaille is chairman of Central Tablelands Water (CTW) and will guide CENTROC’s advocacy and policy development on water.
He appeared before a state upper house inquiry in Orange last week.
“This appointment recognises the pivotal role Central Tablelands Water plays in the current and future water security for a large part of the Central West,” Cr Somervaille said.
CTW’s water network covers 14 towns from Millthorpe to to Grenfell and includes an emergency pipeline to Cowra, and is building another pipeline to Orange.
“This will provide back up in the case of severe drought conditions or breakdowns in either water treatment plants.”
Cr Somervaille is the fifth CENTROC portfolio holder and will join Parkes mayor Ken Keith who works on transport and Orange mayor John Davis who handles planning.
Cowra’s mayor Bill West holds the regional development portfolio and Lachlan shire mayor John Metcalf handles health.
