Played in glorious conditions the Rams took control in the first half to build up a 29-7 lead by half time, but the Magpies made the Rams earn their tries with some solid contact in defence a feature of their play.
Try scorers for the Rams in the first half were Baz Hobby 2, Sam Nixon 2 and Andrew Delaney with Cameron Hobby kicking two goals.
The second half was a much tighter affair with both sides showing plenty of strong defence and line breaks hard to come by.
Adam Hamilton was first to score when he showed good footwork and plenty of pace and then big prop Dan Walker charged over from a lineout close to the Magpies line.
Brendan Newstead added a conversion to bring up the Rams points.
The Magpies were able to cross for 2 second half tries as well and the second half points were 12 all.
Their were plenty of solid performances for the Rams and Andrew Delayney was the standout both in attack and defence.
He picked up Players Player and earned three points.
Baz Hobby was awarded two with his elusive running and wholehearted effort a feature and Cam Hobby picked up the one.
