Dr James Wickham and Shona Manning, from the Biomedical school at CSU were guest speakers at the March dinner. They are involved in a research program called The Change Trial: Coaching for Healthy Ageing.
Members were invited to become part of this trial for a 12 month period during which time they will have guidelines and personal help as they strive to improve their ageing process.
The trial is aimed at promoting health and wellbeing in people over 60, within a 12 month period.
Ten members signed up and other members who were not able to be at the dinner meeting are encouraged to consider being involved as the ideal size of a group is 15 – 20.
It is hoped that once the group begins their trial, we will devote a little time at each dinner meeting to hear from participants as to how they are going and what they are doing at the moment.
On Sunday, March 26, our fundraiser was a sell-out event and a wonderful evening.
Fifty people gathered to hear former 60 Minutes cameraman Nicholas Lee being interviewed by local artist Ruth Stone.
It was an amazing event filled with lots of laughter, incredible stories and fascinating facts.
Nicholas is a great story teller and had us all captivated from the first words. The interview was followed by supper, and an opportunity to talk to Nicholas and mix with friends. A huge thanks to both Nicholas and Ruth. Ruth was a wonderful interviewer, allowing plenty of time for answers and delicately guiding the conversation into new areas.
Many thanks also to author Kim Kelly, who donated a bundle of her books for a raffle. It was a great success and was ‘the icing on the cake’ in terms of fundraising.
The guest speaker for our April dinner will be John Marston, a pilot with Angel Flight. This is sure to be a very interesting evening.
No doubt there are many people in our local community who support Angel Flight so if you would like to come along and hear some facts first hand, please do.
This dinner will be held at Blayney Golf Club on Tuesday April 18 at 6.30 for 7pm.
As exact numbers are needed, please phone Cazzie on 63684747 or 0409772354 with any changes to the ‘permanent list’.
