Local Member for Bathurst Paul Toole has announced that $15,000 would be sourced from the program with an additional $39,000 coming from Blayney Shire Council.
Mr Toole said that the Blayney Tennis Club’s successful application for funding through the latest round of Local Sports Grant’s will see an upgrade of the court surfaces to synthetic grass.
“Tennis is a sport that continues to grow in popularity with players of all ages across the Blayney community actively participating. The court upgrade will meet increased community demand and see games continue despite inclement weather conditions and ongoing maintenance which is required on the existing surfaces.
The club’s president Rosemary Reid said that the work should be beginning within a week, which is quick considering the offer from council had only come in last year.
“We’ve been looking to do something for over a year now, when the council came forward with some money, and then we put the grant in last November and that’s the first grant that we’ve ever needed for those courts,” she said.
The Junior Development Day on Sunday was washed out after a solid downpour at 3pm, but prior to that, the day was deemed a success.
The round robin competition attracted players from around the central west.
