That’s the simple message a humble Jameel Qureshi sent out after his Bathurst side was stunned for the second time this summer by Orange, this time in Sunday’s Mitchell Cricket Council Twenty20 Cup final, which was decided by a tense super over.
In fashion typical of the straight-shooting all-rounder he offered no excuses, just a simple admission that his side wasn’t good enough with bat in hand, and was simply outclassed by the Bluebaggers.
Bathurst bowled superbly to restrict Orange to 8-100, Connor Slattery (2-17) and Sam McPherson (2-19) the stars with the ball.
The side was reduced to 5-16 though, for the most part by Centrals’ Zac Reimer who took three of the first four wickets to finish with 3-6 from four overs.
“We absolutely should’ve chased down 100 … there are no excuses, our batting wasn’t good enough and we have to take responsibility for that,” Qureshi fired.
