Cleo will be part of a squad of 100 including athletes, parents, trainers and staff attending the games.
Cleo was first noticed at the Little Athletics New South Wales (LANSW) State Carnival held in March 2016.
Cleo, representing Blayney Little Athletics Centre, participated in 80m hurdles, 200m sprint, and achieved 3rd in the 200m hurdles and 2nd in the long jump.
In Dubbo, on February 11 and 12, when temperatures soared well into the 40’s, Cleo achieved a 1st in 100m, 200m, 200m hurdles and long jump and 2nd in the 80m hurdles.
Cleo said that when she received the news late last year that she had been invited to Canada for track and field athletics, it was totally unexpected.
“I was really surprised,” she said, “but now I’m training three nights a week in Orange and again here on Friday night at Little Athletics.”
Before she heads off to Canada Cleo will be able to hone her skills at state carnivals.
“I have state multi and state regional events coming up before then,” she said.
Blayney Little Athletics runs at King George Oval on Friday night commencing at 5.30pm.
