The side now has two losses from as many games – after an earlier defeat to Centrals – and even with a win over Orange City next Friday the green and golds have no chance of progressing to the competition’s knockout stages.
Friday night’s game started on a bright note when skipper Nick Bird won the toss and elected to bat but things fell away quickly when the skipper was the first dismissed for just 3.
Marquee player Mick Curtale (38) and Atticus Strong (32) added 53 for the second wicket, but both were dismissed in the space of a couple of overs.
From there, Blayney crumbled, limping to 113.
Chasing Blayney’s meagre total, former Orange and Mitchell Cricket Council skipper Richie Venner blasted 82 not out to see his side home in just 10.4 overs.
Cavaliers’ former captain took a liking to the bowling of John Mulhall and Jayden Fuller in particular: the Blayney pair took 1-34 from three overs and 0-29 from one respectively.
Ryley Oborn was Blayney’s best with the ball, taking 2-5.
Cavaliers’ victory pushes the side into second on the pool A standings, joining Centrals on four points with a 1-1 record through two games.
The winner of the two sides’ clash later this month will qualify for the finals.
