Combined fundraising efforts from the Rotary Club of Blayney, Cadia Valley Operations, Regis Resources Ltd coupled with funding from NSW Health, Blayney Shire Council, Blayney community and a NSW Government Community Grant courtesy of Member for Bathurst, Paul Toole, have assisted in pulling the money together.
$150,000 has been raised which will now allow the project to be put out to tender.
Blayney MPS Health Service Manager, Kathy Hillier said she was thrilled with the fundraising efforts by all parties involved to get this project off the ground.
“Money for palliative care at Blayney means we can provide a more caring environment within the local community where family members requiring palliative care have the opportunity to access these services closer to home,” she said.
Mr Toole said that it was in incredible effort by everyone involved and showed just what can be achieved when groups work in partnership with each other to help those in need.
“For a lot of people, when they’re facing that particular time in their life, it’s important that we can make it as comfortable and as supportive as we can during that process,” he said. “The lobbying efforts of people such as Miles and the deputy mayor Allan Ewin, who every time they saw the Minister Gillian Skinner went in for the kill and put the hard word on her for extra funding, was well worthwhile, but we should all be proud of what we’ve achieved here.”
Cr Ewin said that from amounts as small as a few coins down the street to $30,000 donated by Cadia Valley Operations, the entire community needed to be thanked.
“From just $5 or $10 at a fundraiser and support from Cadia and Regis we have a facility that will soon be shovel ready,” he said.
Work on the room is expected to begin once the tendering process is completed in early 2017.
