The merger was brought about to better target growth of the sport in the town and to better use resources to attract more social and competitive players.
“It brings the sport under one banner, one committee, there’s one agenda and that’s to grow the sport,” club secretary and publicity officer Tanya Tyrrell said.
“We’re pooling both clubs’ resources together to attract a coach for our older junior players,” she said.
Currently, Melanie Ryan coaches the junior hot shots, however more specialised training is required for older developing players.
The merger won’t impact upon the club’s competitions which will continue as normal.
A pairs competition is held on Monday, while ladies’ social tennis is on Tuesday morning.
A singles competition runs on Tuesday night while Wednesday is home to a ladies’ competition.
Saturday tennis has extra room for players to join – either as a team or individual.
