The girls rounded out their minor premiership season with a resounding 48-10 win over Lithgow Workies at King George Oval on Sunday, their 13th victory of the season.
Their focus now turns to this weekend’s qualifying semi-final clash with Bathurst St Pat’s, who won the same number of games as Blayney but finished in second position courtesy of a better for-and-against record.
The winner of the clash at Bathurst’s Carrington Park will face Bathurst Panthers the following weekend for the first berth in the grand final.
The Bears girls will be the only Blayney side to taste finals football, with the premier league and first division outfits both finishing a single win out of the top five in sixth.
The under 18s finished a disappointing season on a bright note on Sunday, drawing 8-all with Lithgow.
If the tight nature of this year’s premier league competition is any indication, Group 10 president Linore Zamparini believes the stage is set for an exciting and absorbing finals series.
Last weekend saw the final games of the regular season completed, with Orange CYMS claiming the minor premiership while St Pat’s and Oberon earned hosting rights for the first weekend of finals football.
St Pat’s and fierce rivals Bathurst Panthers will do battle in the qualifying semi-final on Sunday, while Oberon and Mudgee will fight for survival in the elimination semi on Saturday.
“It's been a really good year so far and really close. It was only on Sunday at four o'clock that it was decided St Pat's got to host the semi-final and not Panthers,” Zamparini said.
CYMS and Panthers have qualified teams across all four grades. Pat’s and Oberon have three sides still in contention, Mudgee two, while Blayney, Cowra, Orange Hawks and Lithgow Workies qualified one outfit for semi-finals each.
