The Blayney branch of Vinnies is just one of 17 in the central west and Executive Officer of the society’s Bathurst Central Council, Ellen Sharp, said that it couldn’t happen without the volunteers.
“Without our volunteers and the donations we receive from the community we would not be able to support the people in need in our local area,” she said, “National op Shop Week is one way of saying thank you to all our volunteers.”
Vinnies volunteers Merle Sherlock has been sorting through the donations at the Blayney store for 20 years and enjoys the social aspects.
“We all come down here once a week and we truly enjoy each other’s company,” she said.
New volunteer Heather Drady offers her services once a fortnight at the Anglican Op-Shop.
“I began in February because I wanted to do something worthwhile for this community,” she said.
