Sporting grounds have been closed, clothes dryers are spinning overtime, areas of the shire have experienced blackouts, Millthorpe has been bragging about the snow and soup sales are skyrocketing.
This month has seen 218.6mm of rain fall in Blayney, smashing the previous wettest June, 162.6mm in 2005, by 56mm.
All that rain fell from the sky over 23 days, leaving us with only seven days where we could dare venture out without wet-weather gear.
The month started wet with 39.4mm falling on Thursday, June 9.
That heavy day’s rain was also the wettest day so far this year.
So far this year we have seen 509.8mm of rain fall in Blayney over 65 days.
The long-term rainfall average for Blayney in June is 83mm sprinkled over 18 days.
The year to date average rainfall is 388.8mm dropping from the heavens over 62.5 days.
We also have felt the coldest day so far this year with the mercury dropping to -4.3c on Sunday June 26.
The coldest June day on record was -8.3 on the June 28, 2006.
The long term minimum average for Blayney is 1.3c and for this month it has been 3.3c.
On a brighter, and somewhat more warmer note, Wednesday June 15 was our balmiest day when the thermometers peaked out at 13.9c
For those harking back to June days of old, it was on June 5, 2002, when a t-shirt day was almost officially declared and 18.6c, which is Sydney weather, was recorded.
The average maximum in Blayney during June though is a bracing 9.7c.
The hottest, well not hot, let’s call it the warmest June on record was in 2005 when we recorded 12.6c.
Needless to say, it won’t be getting much warmer into the second month of winter with single figures being forecast over the next seven days.
