Thieves broke into the church and damaged the lock and door and stole a number of items from the premises.
They stole a small wooden table, two wooden chairs, two door mats, a piece of carpet and most importantly, an irreplaceable memorial bible.
The bible was donated to the church 77 years ago by the Hood family as a memorial to a husband and father.
The inscription on the inside of the book reads:
'In loving memory of WILLIAM HOOD who after long years of faithful service in this church, was called to a higher service on 14th Feb 1918.
Presented by his loving wife and family.. July 1938.'
Treasurer of St David's Church Lola Wyatt said she hopes the bible is returned and is dismayed as to why somebody would steal a memorial.
"I do not know that it would be of any value to anyone except the church as it is a part of our history," she said.
"The police were informed when the break in was discovered early on Thursday, January 28.
"We thank them for being so helpful."
A forensic officer from Orange attended the church site and there is an ongoing police enquiry.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
The historic church had recently undergone renovations to replace the guttering and to paint the doors and windows.
