FINALS rugby league is upon us with the Woodbridge Cup elimination semi-final today at Gooloogong and the qualifying semi-final at Condobolin tomorrow.
In the eliminator at Gooloogong, Canowindra Tigers will come up against Grenfell Goannas after they played each other in the last round.
Canowindra won 32-20 last week, however, finals football is a new game. Both sides know a win is paramount to keep their run on towards Cup final day.
The Tigers will feel confident after a 12-point win last week. The Goannas know the neutral ground will even things up and bring them right into this game.
One win each in the regular rounds has this one showing both sides are evenly matched.
The young Tigers are up against the experienced Goannas in a game that will come down to whoever wins the forward battle and whoever wants it more.
Tipping a winner is a guess, but I lean towards the Tigers to continue on next week.
The qualifying semi-final on Sunday at Condobolin is a local derby type clash when Peak Hill Roosters play Trundle Boomers.
This one should draw a big crowd to Condobolin.
Peak Hill won both games this season, 44-38 in the first round at Trundle, and 20-18 at Peak Hill, showing there is not much between both sides.
Peak Hill have not been in real good form in recent weeks, having two wins and two losses in their last four games, while Trundle’s boys are coming off four big wins, scoring 178 points and conceding only 40.
Both sides have had some injury worries to overcome, so whichever side can come up with the strongest personnel on the day will probably win.
I think this one will be a close, low-scoring game. Trundle are the form side but finals football always brings out the best in the Roosters, who I think will win in a close one.
Today in the elimination semi-finals at Gooloogong, Grenfell takes on Canowindra in youth league and league tag. Congratulations to both clubs having all three teams in the finals series.
Tomorrow in the qualifying semi-finals at Condobolin in youth league, Binalong goes up against Eugowra, and in league tag Binalong clashes with Condobolin.
Congratulations to the minor premiers in all three grades, Binalong Brahmans first grade; Peak Hill Roosters in youth league and Eugowra Eaglets in league tag.
Semi-final draws:
Saturday at Gooloogong: 12.40pm, Grenfell v Canowindra; Youth League, 1.40pm, Grenfell v Canowindra; League Tag, First Grade, 3pm, Canowindra v Grenfell.
