Youth council members have organised the Dye Hard Colour Run, a fun event where participants will be pelted with bright colours as they make their way through the Bicentenary Park and Macquarie River precinct.
The concept of a colour run has taken off in Sydney, and the youth council is pleased to be able to stage the event locally with the support of Bathurst Regional Council.
“Lots of people travel to Sydney for events like this and we’re really excited we can host this in Bathurst,” youth mayor Laura Van Uum said.
The Dye Hard Colour Run will take place on Sunday, October 25.
Participants will run a five-kilometre course, starting at Lions Berry Park and taking in two loops of the Macquarie River path between the Denison and Hereford Street bridges.
They will make their way through 10 colour stations situated throughout the course.
Mayor Gary Rush and his fellow councillors are very supportive of the initiative and expect it to be a great event for Bathurst in its bicentenary year.
Council will subsidise the first 400 tickets in the early bird registrations that open on July 13, with more details to be released closer to the date.
Cr Rush said you can expect to see him out on the course when October 25 rolls around.
“I’m going to have a go, either by jogging around or positioning myself at one of the dye stations,” he said.
Ms Van Uum hopes people of all ages will register to be part of the event, which is all about the fun and not who finishes first.
Most of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the McGrath Foundation.
