The children have been busy this week taking part in workshops at The Cottage in preparation for the exhibition later this month.
Under the guidance of artist Penny May the children are taking part in a series of four workshops on mixed media, print making, sculpture and drawing portraits.
"These workshops are about creating opportunities for children to explore new mediums/ materials, extend student vocabulary and broaden their own knowledge and life experience," Ms May said.
"I wish to enable students to discover their artistic potential in a nurturing environment with a practicing artist," she said.
Through a series of fun exercises the children have been looking at and discussing some famous artworks in the art room as a stimulus for the activities which included drawing, painting, printmaking or sculpture. They have been developing their skills in colour, composition and painting through fun activities that are a mix of theory and practical exercises.
Penny May has worked in the arts for over 13 years lecturing at Art & Design-UNSW, teaching in NSW High Schools, curating exhibitions and writing Art Education Kits.
