THE two words Blayney and hot are rarely used in the same sentence, but Duntryleague’s Rob Parfett has beaten the heat to claim this year’s Blayney Open title.

In unseasonably scorching spring temperatures for Blayney, Parfett nailed nine-hole rounds of three-over, even and three-under par for the 27-hole event to score a scratch total of 102.
He finished two shots better than fellow Duntryleague member Mal Gregor, who led all day before falling in the final three holes.
Parfett said his first win at the Blayney Open since 2012 was understandably much tougher than the last.
“It was hot, hot, hot,” Parfett said.
“We had one member taken away in an ambulance with dehydration, but he’ll be okay.
“It was a good day. The greens were good for Blayney.
“I’ve played all of the opens this year and my form hasn’t been the best, so I wasn’t expecting much heading into the event. Maybe that’s the best way to go about it all of the time.”
Parfett said the key to his improved rounds - his scores of 37, 34 and 31 good enough to secure an even par round of 102 - was adjusting to the weather as quickly as possible.
“I suppose I acclimatised with the conditions,” he joked.
“I was even with Mal with three to go, then he chipped on and missed the putt and then double bogied the last. Mal was even all day, he played pretty well.”
Peter O’Neill claimed the B grade title with 110, while Peter Wilson claimed C grade with a 27-hole scratch score of 145.
