Slim Hamilton opened the Show and reminisced about his 60-plus years of attending and working at the bottom gate.
Then followed the presentation of Life Membership to Sam Connell who has helped out for 20-plus years and Treasurer for 11 of these.
The new cattle shed was full of cattle entries and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole declared it open and named it the Ben Lowe Pavillion.
Ben responded and said how proud he was to be honoured this way alongside the Digger Bright, Webby Reid, Tremayne Hargans and Ted Kinghorne Pavillions. Ben has been coming to Carcoar Show for at least 90 of the 137 Shows that have been held.
Winner of the $100 for the Blokes Chocolate Cake was Thomas Richardson while Lee Hewitt took out the $100 Feature Carrot Cake Award.
Most Successful Exhibitor in the Home Products was Cass Mendham from Mandurama, while her daughter Keely was Most Successful in the 13 years and under and 7 years and under Champion was Cass' son Lachlan. Keeping it all in the family.
Champion Colour photograph was won by Wendy Smith with Gemma Green taking out Most Successful Exhibitor.
Champion Craft article was won by Barbara Anderson with her soft toy "Angel" and in the flower section Libby Pickett was the Most Successful adult with Ayla Johnson from Bathurst the Most Successful child. Champion Rose of the Show was exhibited by Sue Black.
WK Fagan Perpetual Trophy for the Champion Pen of Lambs went to Chris and Pip Wilson of Mandurama with Reserve pen being Stuart and Gemma Green's Chesney Pastoral entry. Champion pen carries a Prize of $100 plus tickets to the RAS for 2015.
Yard Dog Trials saw Steve Weyman's dog, "Alice" win the Aramax Novice Dog Award, from 14 other entries while Sarah Mortimer with "Dixie" won the Open section from 13 other entries.
Shearing and Woolhandling competitions were on throughout the day, with many competitors getting in some practice for the Nationals which will be held at Old Errowanbang Woolshed on Nov 21-23.
Best Local Shearer was Tom Hooper from Forest Reefs with Nicole Murphy from Mandurama taking out the local Woolhandler prize.
The James Ashton Memorial Trophy for the Supreme Exhibit in the cattle Section went to McLachlan Group of Cowra with their Angus cow and calf "Talis Promis". The Junior Paraders competition was keenly contested with Monique Miller wining the Novice section, Declan Haines the Advanced and Jock Johnston the Peewees.
Whip Cracking Champion of the day was Will Lyon from Orange with Ryan Kelly winning the Junior Section. Judge, John Greenwell had all competitors popping balloons which proved difficult for some.
Scarecrows had lots of entries with Errowanbang School winning the Champion with their "Castaways". Trunkey and Carcoar schools also had entries which was much appreciated by the organising committee.
Colouring Competition was hotly contested and the judges had to divide the sections. Under 8 was Ayla Johnson, 8-10yrs Henry Molloy and 11-13 years Keely Bartlett.
Supreme Led Hack of the Day was "Warehaven Surreal", the owner of which was presented with the RC Hopkins Memorial Trophy and $100 while the Supreme Ridden Hack of the day "Whitewood Just The Bees Knees" exhibited by the Smart family, won $150 and the John Harries Perpetual Trophy.
Judges Col Brown, Wendy Coyne, Sue Willoughby, Davina Frazer and Carolyn Lye had a busy time in the horse five rings.
The Heavy Horses were well represented and made a spectacular sight on the day.
KP Connection provided the music to set the scene for the day and the Bar staff were flat out trying to keep everyone's thirst at bay.
The Show Society barbecue and Afternoon Tea Kitchen plus the drinks stall were all well patronised, thank-you to everyone who came, especially to those who helped make this "The Best little Show in the Country".
