Blayney Shire Council in conjunction with Mitchell Conservatorium, Bathurst and Orange Regional Conservatorium, Orange are offering music tuition scholarships and encouragement awards for students aged between 7 and 18 years who live in the Shire and wish to further their music studies.
The opportunity to learn music is for everyone, says Orange Regional Conservatorium musical director Donna Riles said, when announcing the opening of scholarship applications for 2015.
"The Orange Regional Conservatorium aims to support young Blayney musicians and their families by offering a selection of scholarships," Ms Riles said.
"These scholarships not only assist with the financial side of music lessons, they can also open doors to those less fortunate ensuring our entire community has access to music education."
In its first year in 2011, four of Blayney Shire's talented young musicians were rewarded with fully paid musical tuition for one year as part of the Blayney Shire Music Scholarship.
James Vanderhel, Jarred Mackay, Alexandra Staples and Kirithar Vijayakumar beat a field of applicants to take the first ever annual scholarship.
Since then several other locals have received scholarships including singer and pianist Jordan Lane.
Jordan had never had formal singing training prior to obtaining the scholarship, so he put it to good use. In turn, the scholarship allowed him to develop his vocal skills.
The scholarship also provided Jordan with another benefit, helping him through his HSC performances.
"I wouldn't of gone as well in the HSC [without the scholarship]," Jordan said.
Sponsored by Blayney Council and local business, applications close on October 17. The application form is available on the Blayney Shire Council website.
