"This is the initiative of Jim Newman of Newmans' Fuels and Buses and fully supported by the sporting representatives of the Blayney Sports Council," Cr Kingham said.
"A small sub-committee of the Sports Council met with Jim Newman to put some parameters to how the sports awards would work.
"The committee decided to have five categories: Junior, Senior, Veteran, Teams and the volunteer of the month.
"This would culminate in the holding of an annual Sportsman's dinner where the winner in each category would be announced from the 12 monthly winners."
The competition would commence on October 1 and each sporting organisation has the opportunity to nominate someone within seven days of the end of each month.
A nomination sheet will be made available on a dedicated email address and completed forms can be returned to that email address within seven days of the end of each month.
Businesses and individuals are being approached to sponsor awards in each category each month.
People wishing to help should contact Jim Newman at Newmans' Fuels.
"I congratulate Jim Newman on his initiative to bolster the achievements of athletes in the whole of the Blayney Shire and look forward to the eager participation of sporting organisations throughout the whole shire area," Cr Kingham said.
