The savings were achieved through collaborative arrangements and resource sharing, according to information released by the Wellington, Blayney, Cabonne Strategic Alliance (WBC).
Blayney mayor Cr Scott Ferguson, who is also the outgoing chairman of WBC, said the Alliance has now achieved savings and efficiencies of more than $5.7 million since it was formed 11 years ago, while providing a range of opportunities for the member councils to become stronger and more sustainable.
"With the state government's ongoing reform agenda, we cannot be complacent and need to continue to be leaders in alternative solutions for medium-sized councils," Cr Ferguson said.
The outcome was helped in part by the Alliance's key project during the past year which has been the development of a shared services model to enhance delivery of services and achieve further savings for ratepayers.
Other key projects included joint tenders, sharing equipment, the implementation of e-planning tools and joint engagement of specialists to assist Blayney with its special rate variation process and Cabonne Council with community consultation.
Cr Ferguson will now hand over the position of Alliance chairman to Wellington mayor Cr Rod Buhr.
"One of my highlights was a highly successful inaugural Women's Forum," Cr Ferguson said.
"More than 60 women attended the event which came about in response to the relatively low women's representation on our councils.
"It highlighted the benefits of being involved in local decision-making and received overwhelmingly positive feedback."
