One of the most talked about events of the last Australia Day Fair, the parade, will be back in 2015.
Whilst the previous parade harked back to the halcyon days of the Ben Hall Festival, this year's event will focus on the future and promises to be even bigger and better.
Organisers are still seeking donations towards the parade and have already received a good response with contributions from the Blayney Chronicle, Blayney Newsagency, Blayney Tourist Park and Aldi Orange.
Anyone wishing to make a contribution, whether financial or otherwise, should contact Laurel Thomas on 6367 3153.
House and Garden:
Last Sunday, during a promotional visit to the region, managing editor of Australian House and Garden magazine Alaana Cobon and her husband took time out from their schedule to enjoy the best that Carcoar has to offer.
Teapot's Cafe at Stoke House hosted afternoon tea and according to Phil and Ellen Cram, Alaana loved the village and will feature her experience on the magazine's website blog.
While in town she also took time to peruse a few of the local stores. Thanks to those who assisted in making the visit a great success.
Farewell to the Butcher's Block:
One of Carcoar's iconic shops Le Billot de Boucher (The Butcher's Block) will cease trading in Carcoar on Sunday, September 28 and re-open in Millthorpe at 16 Victoria Street on Friday, October 17. Proprietor Joey Cunningham would like to thank all of her customers for their wonderful support and she hopes that she may continue to meet your shopping and gift needs in the new location.
Opening hours will be 10am - 5pm Wednesday to Sunday and public holidays. "Please visit - I will miss you if you don't," Joey said.
In the Footsteps of the Wiradjuri:
If you have ever wondered about the history of the First People of this district, you will enjoy the discovery tour being run by the Historical Society on Tuesday, October 14.
Bill Allen, of the Wiradjuri tribe which has inhabited the Bathurst area for thousands of years, will be leading an excursion taking in the principal sacred sites and historic remains of his ancestors.
We expect to visit the grave of Windradyne, and the initiation sites on Mount Panorama, among others. It will be a day's outing with a picnic lunch.
The cost will be $10 per person for the commentary plus a fee for hire of the bus. Laurel Thomas, (telephone 6367 3153) will be pleased to take your advance bookings. Watch this space for further details.
Carcoar Show, October 25:
Billed as the 'Best little Show in the Country', the 2014 Carcoar Show is set to continue a proud tradition begun more than a century ago of showcasing the district's finest livestock and local produce. This year the usual ring events and exhibits will be boosted by some new attractions with the launch of a scarecrow competition, the Best Blokes Chocolate and feature Carrot cake (both carry prize money of $150) and another horse ring for Pony Club/junior competitors. Once again the hardworking team will be serving up a delicious barbeque lunch along with ice cold drinks and tasty sandwiches.
The bar will be open between 11am and 6pm to quench that Show Day thirst. This year Angullong Wines have kindly sponsored the show and a variety of their award winning wines will also be available from the bar. Ticket prices are: family $20, individuals over 15 $8, Children and aged pensioners $4. Slim Hamilton is opening the Show at 1.30pm followed by Paul Toole MP opening and naming the new cattle shed.
A working bee will be held at the Showground to complete the shed rails and any other repairs on Saturday, September 27. Check times with President Mark Richardson on 6367 4022 or 6367 5195 . All volunteers are welcome. Copies of the show program are now widely available from local retailers and those wishing to compete in the events or exhibit should pick up an entry form for the details.
