BOER WAR DAY

A memorial service will be held this year for Boer War Day on Sunday May 27 at 11am, at the memorial next to the Blayney RSL Hall.

Interested parties are invited to join with members of the RSL and the Blayney Shire Local and Family History Group for a short service to commemorate those from the Blayney Shire who enlisted in this war.

Each year a service is held in many towns and cities across Australia on the closest Sunday to May 31.

This year's story will be from Albert Chandler from Shaw, he and his brother Charles enlisted in 1900.

REEKS TO OPEN COMMUNITY CENTRE

Ian Reeks will officially open Blayney's new Community Centre on June 22, Blayney Shire Council General Manager Glenn Wilcox has confirmed.

Mr Reeks will open the centre on behalf the Blayney Community Tradesmen's Group that worked to construct the centre.

A majority of Blayney Shire Councillor's voted in favour of Mr Reeks opening the centre at a closed council meeting last Monday night.

Councillor Roxanne Reeks did not take part in the closed meeting and did not vote on the matter.

TENNIS CLUB TO MEET

The Blayney Tennis Club's annual general meeting will be held next Monday, May 28. At this meeting, the program for the next years competitions and events will be discussed, so this is the time for our members to express their views. The club is only as successful as the people participating in the running of it. The club strongly urge all members and any new intending members to come along to this important meeting. Tennis is a very family friendly sport mum, dad and kids can all take part. The club hopes to see you at the club house at 7.30pm on Monday night.

REUNION WEEKEND

To celebrate over 40 years of education at Blayney High School, a 'Back to Blayney' reunion weekend will be held during October 20-21.

As part of the reunion weekend, an open day will be held at the high school from 10am to 3pm on Saturday October 20. Memorabilia will be on display and there will be school tours plus a lunch from 12-2pm.

On the Saturday night, a drinks and nibbles event will be held at Blayney Bowling Club. Tickets are $45 each and can be purchased by phoning Maxine or Maureen at the school.

On Sunday October 21, a family picnic will be held for each year group.

If you want to get involved by; helping compile a mailing list of past students and staff, loaning memorabilia for displays or just generally being apart of the celebrations, then phone Maureen Dickson or Maxine Meek on 6368 2100 during school hours.

OTHER UPCOMING EVENTS

The Newbridge Progress Association will hold a biggest afternoon tea event to raise funds for cancer research on Saturday May 26. It will be held between 2-4pm at the Newbridge Craft Shop.

A fundraiser dinner for Josh Lynch will be held on August 4 and the Blayney Anglican Parish Fete will be held on Saturday November 24 at 10am.
